Area51 Project 6x6 - 2026 Maintenance & Adventures |
|
Near the end of March it was time to clean up the garage and start a little maintenance on the Argo, aka Project 6x6.
This machine has been sitting all too long, when it does the already finicky carburetor becomes a real bugger causing running and idling issues. Before even starting the machine I pulled off the air cleaner then removed the top of the carburetor for a quick topside cleaning.
I used my vacuum brake bleeder to suck out all of the stale gas, sprayed down the bowl and passageways with aerosol carburetor cleaner, then sucked that out too. Finally I removed the drain plug and the main jet for a thorough cleaning, then reassembled.
This quick 15 minute job ensures the machine will run very well, sure enough it fired right up with ease and idled perfectly both on and off choke.
With our upcoming spring snowstorm I planned to install the tracks, but upon inspection I discovered the set I broke two years ago were damaged much worse than I thought. I thought I had just one segment to replace as it cracked off at the hinge. Upon closer inspection more than 6 segments are currently split half way across, a testament to over 20 winters of constant hard use. I am on the lookout for some used 13" tracks to get Project 6x6 back on the snow again next winter!
