February 22, 2026: Blizzard Warning! (31 Photos)

As stated in my last snowstorm blog, this winter has been absolutely incredible and it just keeps getting better and better. After receiving nearly 60cm in our area just a few days ago, another weather event was set to arrive late Saturday night.

There was a lot of uncertainty in forecasting the track of this storm, some models showing as little as 5cm others a lot more. As someone that truly enjoys winter and winter activities I was stoked to watch the snow continue to pile up all throughout the day Sunday.

Scooter certainly enjoyed watching the snowflakes too!

By 6pm Sunday snowfall finally eased up although winds remained high which would make snow blowing a chore. Estimates put this snowfall at around 56cm in our area while higher elevations such as Mount Pearl and Paradise saw well over 70cm!

Snow from this storm drifted high off the existing snowbanks from all of our previous snow clearing efforts. The drift behind our Murano was up to the taillights!

With the trusty Honda 9/28 fuelled up it was time to begin this tedious task. The snowdrift was much higher than the bucket on the blower. Tonight's efforts would consist of clearing as much as I could, back up, knock the tall drift down into the cleared area with a shovel, clear it out again and repeat over and over again.

The first fifty or so feet of the driveway was drifted quite high. Once I got out near the lamp post I could clear a swath without having to knock down the drift (with the exception for the last couple passes up the left hand side).

The Honda blowers are great, I can reliably take a full bucket cut every single pass, running the machine right on the governor. I continuously adjust the infinitely variable speed control lever to make the most of each pass without overloading the machine.

Over three hours later I had the driveway cleared, a cut around each vehicle and front walkway opened up which would suffice for this evening in case we had to get out of the house.

The following morning with most businesses facing a delayed opening my snow clearing operations resumed. Thankfully there was no further snow accumulation overnight, I had a plow roll to clear, move the vehicles out to finish the driveway and then moved onto the basement door and rear deck.

Next I hooked onto the trailer, hauled it out, cleared three feet of snow off the deck with the Snowblower, then cleared out its winter time parking spot.

According to forecasters we are on track for one of the snowiest Februaries on record and one of the snowiest Winter seasons on record with 376cm (over twelve feet) of snow on the ground since November!

With snow clearing complete I received a phone call from my buddy Rob who's Honda 13/32 decided to quit moving right in the middle of his cleanup. He did a parts run and I headed over to his place to make repairs. More pics on this track drive gearbox rebuild can be found on the Projects in the Shed page.

Cheers, MIKE
