January 13, 2026: Post Windstorm ATV Trail Repairs (17 Photos) |
|
We've been experiencing a lot of wind storms since the beginning of December, it seems like each week brings a new storm with gusts regularly exceeding 100kp/h.
Yesterday we faced another significant wind event, this time winds were sustained at 90kp/h and gusted to a high of 140kp/h as measured at the airport. With winds finally dropping out I hit the trails on Project Foreman loaded up with my trusty CS 2500 mini chainsaw to check for fallen trees blocking our local riding trails here in Torbay.
I didn't get far before coming across my first trail repair where a couple trees partially blocked the airport fence trail. Both were trimmed well back to allow plenty of room for ATV's, Side by Sides or even an Argo!
This process was repeated all along the main trail. My little top handle saw continues to run so very well and got each of these repairs done in mere minutes.
Having just had a major mild spell and rain, most puddles were broke open and just starting to re-freeze with today's cold snap.
With the main trail looked after it was on to the popular side trails, I didn't get to hit them all today but certainly made a dent in many of the most commonly travelled ones.
Looks like the water reservoir for the Town of Torbay has finally refilled. They've been pumping water from Whiteway's Pond for weeks now, coupled with recent rainfall they should be lifting the water conservation order very soon.
The last place I had to clear up was over near Karon Drive where four large trees had the path completely blocked off! In under ten minutes I had the trees cleared and tossed safely aside. All in all a very fun and productive afternoon on the trails. I got to do some riding and even burned two full tanks of fuel in the saw!
Cheers, MIKE
