January 4, 2025: Southern Shore ATV Ride (11 Photos) |
It's the start of a brand new year, and normal Winter weather continues to elude us here on the Avalon Peninsula. Today I decided to take advantage of favourable trail conditions and make a quick run down the southern shore to retrieve my trail cameras which have been out since July. I loaded up Project Foreman and hit the highway south bound to our Fall stomping grounds.
Skies were sunny and clear with temperatures just below freezing this morning. Everything was coated in a thick frost which quickly melted as the sun grew stronger throughout the day.
I have a number of trail cam models, most are Spypoint and most of them are cellular which send activity pics live to the Spypoint app on my phone. My favourite model is the latest product from Spypoint, the Flex series which are leaps and bounds above the rest. They work well in low cellular coverage areas, are much easier to setup and update firmware, and they are capable of recording pictures or video clips.
I still have two of the older Spypoint Link Micros which continue to work well but require stronger cell service than the Flex and don't have an option for video.
The final set up I run consist of an ordinary Stealth Cam unit connected to a Spypoint Cell Link. The Cell Link copies photos taken by a standard trail camera and transmits them over the cellular network to the Spypoint App.
Project Foreman continues to run well, some of the trails today were dicey but the bike handled all obstacles with ease, it's just an absolute pleasure to ride.
Finally a sneak peek of some of my trail cam captures for Fall 2024, I am still working on editing photos and quite a lot of videos to post here on the site soon.
Cheers, MIKE
