March 17, 2024: Adapt & Overcome Paddy's Day Run (22 Photos)

Its been a crazy three months of missed outdoor adventures as weather, work, pool and more took up valuable weekend time. Today I decided to take advantage of above freezing temps and clear sunny skies for a simple Torbay snow run and boil-up. I haven't ridden in Project 6x6 since installing the tracks & convertible top weeks ago, so I loaded up my boil-up gear and headed in the road from our house.

Things didn't quite go to plan, when I made it to the airport perimeter fence the machine was super hard to turn in the soft snow. I was surprised to find I was missing a track! I didn't have far to back track, I passed over it, coiled it up, strapped it and threw it in back of the machine. Looks like the track got twisted up from being in a deep rut, this put a lot of strain on the joints and snapped a weak track link right at the hinge.

If we get more snow I'll replace the section and reinstall the tracks but winter is nearing the end here on the East Coast. I quickly popped off the other track and nestled Project 6x6 into the back corner of the garage where Project Foreman had spent the winter so far. Since the Argo performed well on just one track I decided to load my boil-up gear onto the bike and hit the trails once again.

Made it to the first photo stop in the Argo Ride, so far so good! LoL

There is still one heck of a lot of snow in the woods, the main trails were well packed down well and posed no difficultly for an ATV on good tires.

Large puddles particularly ones with moving water were open but crossable, some were more tricky than others. The weather today was absolutely beautiful, clear sunny skies and cool but not freezing cold temperatures.

Off-trail snow was dense but too soft to go far on tires.  Any sort of obstacle caused the tires to bog down. Off trail riding today will definitely lead to a stuck bike!

Lots of signs that Spring is rapidly approaching.

Once I found a decent place for a boil-up I used my CS 2500 mini chainsaw to knock down a small tree to form a base for my Kelly Kettle. Today I boiled the kettle for coffee & Mr. Noodle, then used the hobo stove attachment to fry up some moose sausages.

These Coughlin coffee filters still work great for an easy mug up in the country.

Nothing like a quick, hot meal up in the woods, even when not all that far from home!

Although the day definitely didn't go to plan, the best experiences in life often involve adapting and overcoming obstacles to reach your goals no matter how simple or extravagant they may be!

Cheers, MIKE
