September 29, 2023: Trepassey Partridge Hunting (35 Photos)

Friday afternoon Bassan and I headed down the Southern Shore to Trepassey for a quick overnight Partridge Hunting trip. His father Peter was already there having taking up residence in their cabin ever since the season opened!

With our crew's moose hunting tags filled we were looking forward to a relaxing fall small game hunting. Multiple moose hunting trips are fun, but we've had years making way too many trips and once finished the season empty handed. It was a pleasure to take care of this important group hunt early.

The weather this afternoon was beautiful, sunny albeit much warmer than we are used to at the end of September, however it was quite windy, which of course we're always used to!

After unloading our gear at the cabin we headed out with the dogs for a late afternoon hunt on the barrens.

We seen quite a few single birds and one covey of three. All the birds were very wild taking flight long before we got in range for a shot.

That evening we enjoyed an awesome supper of bowtie pasta with Bassan's homemade moose tomato sauce.

Saturday morning we headed to a different area to get clear of the fog which had most of Trepassey socked in. Temps today were even warmer, this was my first time bird hunting in just a T-shirt!

The dogs sure had no trouble finding a way to cool down!

My Benelli Super Nova 12gauge shotgun was my very first brand new firearm. It spent a few seasons shooting Trap at the Rod and Gun Club so it has more rounds down barrel than most field guns. It's still a fantastic hunting gun, it's light weight, has a great recoil absorption system and the pump action is simple and very reliable.

After seeing a bunch of birds this morning we finally got on a few that were within range.

Around 4pm it was time for Bassan and I to call it a trip and hit the highway for home. All in all it was another great and truly enjoyable trip!

Cheers, MIKE
