January 23, 2023: Torbay Post Storm Argo Ride (13 Photos)
On Monday immediately after our first major snowstorm in two years forecasters have more bad news for us winter outdoor enthusiasts. Tomorrow will see the start of another warming trend and a lot of rain which is going to wreak havoc on our beautiful post-storm snow conditions.
Not wanting to repeat past mistakes of missing out on winter riding, I finished up work early, headed home and got Project 6x6 ready for a run. During the warm weather evenings last week I got the machine serviced and the tracks/windshield/convertible top installed. All that was left to do today was zipping in the side panels which took but a moment.
The trail at the end of our road is narrow, but this heavy wet snow weighed down so many trees and branches. Driving through them knocked off the snow and they popped right back up out of the way, I had to stop twice to clear off the hood and roof of the machine! Thankfully I also took my CS 2500 mini chainsaw for deadfalls just like this one.
Of course, the ground had completely thawed out prior to this storm, riding today was a lot messier than my ATV ride ten days ago as none of the puddles re-froze. Thankfully the Argo is a pretty clean dry to ride in compared to the bike.
An Argo ride is the physical definition of slow and steady wins the race. In snow when equipped with tracks it will go just about anywhere, not fast but it will keep you and all kinds of gear warm and dry! Winter is also the absolute smoothest ride you will have in one of these machines as snowfall really smoothens out the trails. Argos, which have no suspension, are not renown for ride quality.
All in all it was a great little ride, and good shakedown run after the track installation. I know this snow wont survive the coming week but at least I was able to take advantage of it!
Cheers, MIKE
