June 6, 2023: Slaney's Cabin Part 4 (22 Photos)

This past weekend Terry and his Father headed back out to Central NL for another work weekend at his new camp. Unfortunately rest of us had other commitments on at the time of this trip so we missed out on this instalment.

Terry arrived at camp mid morning and put his 2018 Argo Huntmaster 8x8 to work once again hauling in the latest round of building supplies. These trips saw him carry in more plywood for interior walls, two new large front windows and fresh bamboo countertops to finish out the kitchen.

The boys got the old window out in no time and without shattering any of the old window panes!

The new vinyl casement unit was shimmed level and properly installed using the included hardware. This beautiful new unit will last and probably outlast the life of the cabin.

One down, one to go!

The living room window was quite a bit larger, had an old wooden frame, a non operating opener and a broken pane. At least it came out hassle free.

The new unit is also vinyl but is double casement which is bright and will allow lots of airflow on those warm summer days.

The next job on the list was installing Terry's brand new bamboo countertops. First was measuring many times, marking the board and building up the nerve to make the cut and not ruin the expensive piece! A replacement for which is literally many miles, an Argo rip, and a truck ride away!

The cut was successful and clean, a pocket hold jig was used to bore holes to hide screws making a secure strong join than will not shift out of alignment.

Now Slaney is just a sink, fridge and a full size stove away from a fully functioning kitchen!

With interior work complete the boys fell a few more trees that Terry wanted removed in front of and out behind the cabin.

There are still plenty of trees both on and bordering the property, having a few more removed really brightened up the grounds!

Cheers, MIKE
