February 20, 2023: Torbay Snowmobile Rip (12 Photos)

It's been an interesting couple of days weather wise here on the East Coast. After a significant snow storm on Valentines Day it was originally forecast to rain Friday night into Saturday.

Instead we received quite a bit of freezing rain which was followed by approximately 15cm fresh windswept snow. Needless to say snow conditions here on the Avalon are pretty decent this weekend!

Unfortunately I didn't get to enjoy it much over a very busy weekend, however I did find some time Monday afternoon to sneak in a quick ride on Project Powertek REV. With 25mm heavy rain forecast for Tuesday I really didn't want to miss an opportunity to enjoy prime snowmobile conditions!

Project Powertek REV is a 2006 Skidoo MXZ 800 that I purchased in 2012 and rebuilt/restored over the following year. Aside from repairs, mods include aftermarket shocks, HID headlights, front bulkhead bracing, X package bars & windshield, 6" riser with XP bar pad, a custom black tunnel and suspension rails and an overall black/yellow accent theme.

You couldn't ask for better weather for a rip in the woods. Sub zero temps, clear sunny skies an only a light breeze of wind made for an awesome day on the trails!

After sitting since 2021 due to poor snow conditions last winter, the sled started easily and continues to run great. I always store the sled mostly empty of fuel and top off with fresh 93 and a healthy dose of Seafoam cleaner to dilute older stale fuel.

Today's ride was a quick jaunt on the back trails of Torbay. I left from the house and headed around the airport fence towards Indian Meal Line & Winsor Heights.

The goal today was a quick shakedown run close to home to check for any operating issues that may need to be addressed before an upcoming longer adventure. Thankfully the sled is both running and riding quite well!

There is nothing else quite like snowmobiling. I really enjoy riding Project Foreman, but it's very limited in deep snow, the Argo is awesome especially for carrying a load of gear ice fishing, but the freedom enjoyed on a fast sled with a very smooth ride is second to none!

Cheers, MIKE
