February 14-15, 2023: Valentines Winter Storm (21 Photos) |
|
With another significant winter storm forecast to begin early Tuesday (tomorrow) morning, there were a couple things I wanted to get done prior to the storm.
First was moving my open deck trailer out of the backyard so it would be easier to access for towing the Argo & Snowmobile later this winter. There was a fair amount of snow already in the yard, but another storm would make this task much more difficult.
Good ol' Project 6x6 got the job done with ease, even towing through much deeper snow on side of the house.
Next I ran out to the storage unit and picked up Project Powertek REV, my 2006 MXZ Skidoo 800HO. My last snowmobile rip took place back in 2021 as last year was a write off for snowmobiling. The machine fired up pretty easy despite its extended hibernation!
I topped off the fuel tank on the way home to dilute the old fuel then did a few test laps on back of the house, the machine is running fantastic!
By mid-afternoon Tuesday we had another 20cm of snow on the ground as we reached a lull in the storm system.
I took advantage of this break to make a first cut on the driveway and keep ahead of the storm, especially if I happen to get called out for work.
It was only 20cm, but combined with high winds this snowfall was windswept into significant drifts which were packed in quite dense.
Out by the lamppost snow was surprisingly deep and for a long stretch which really made my Honda 9/28 earn its keep!
The storm ramped up again overnight Tuesday and dumped another 20cm by the time it ended Wednesday morning, once again it was coupled with even higher winds.
Drifting out by the light post was significant once again, thankfully near the garage was not as bad as yesterday.
It took a couple hours to completely clear the driveway, walkways front and back, and decks front and back but the task went well.
We are forecast to have rain on Friday, hopefully it doesn't shag up this snowfall too bad for the weekend, but only time will tell!
Cheers, MIKE
