July 3, 2022: Placentia Salmon Fishing (10 Photos)

There's nothing worse than being in a rush/not fully prepared to go up in the woods or on the river, such was the case for me today. With Salmon fishing season just open, Matt French and I decided to head to the Northeast Placentia river for a few flicks.

Although its likely too early for Salmon just yet, we've done well with brook trout on this river. Unfortunately I wouldn't get to find out today as in my rush to leave the house I left my sling pack behind. This not only contained my flies and necessary gear, it also contained my salmon license which is mandatory on a salmon river.

All was not lost as I had a great evening showing Matt, who is new this season to salmon fishing, a lot of what I learned last season during my own introduction to the sport!

We started out by the bridge and fished downriver as far as the rock wall.

Then we headed back up river to the falls and fished back down river towards the bridge.

Of the gear I did remember, my new SIMMS Freestone pants and solar flex hoodie made their debute and were fantastic! Much more comfortable in shallow rivers that don't require chest waders.

Although I was disappointed to not be able to fish & out fish Matt French, it was still an awesome evening on the river!

Cheers, MIKE
