NL Sportsman Shoot: (1 Photo)
1. Sunday morning, Mark French, Mr. French, Justin and I headed
out to the St. John's Rod and Gun Club for the annual Newfoundland Sportsman
Magazine Shoot. This event is just one of many Sunday afternoons Mark & I spend at the
Gun Club partaking in various Trap Shooting Competitions.
The weather was beautiful and we had a great day shooting.
This shoot consisted of 50 singles from the trap houses, and 50 sporting clays
which included targets thrown from the horizontal rabbit trap, and various set ups
using the spring throwers on the upper ranges. Many prizes were given away and a
great lunch was provided as well!!!
From the St. John's Rod and Gun Club Official Site:
What a turnout!
Proceeding a very successful Youth Program, 60 shooters registered for the
annual Newfoundland Sportsman Shoot on June 12. Organizers were amazed at this
year's turnout for the 50 Trap / 50 Sporting Clays shoot - the largest ever.
Competition was tight after the 50 target Trap event with Troy Coldwell leading
former NF Sportsman Champions Joe Rosa by 1 target and Andrea Bassan by 2. Brian
Lewis - many time runner up was also 2 targets behind the leader. Several other
shooters were in close contention with scores of 44 and 45.
Coldwell's shooting prevailed and remained on top throughout the Sporting Clays
portion of the shoot to capture the 2011 Sportsman Trophy and the C.G. Emery
Streamside fly rod and reel main prize. Joe Rosa took the Runner-up spot.
Many thanks to O.P. Fishing and Hunting, the NF Sportsman Magazine, the Wildlife
Division and Labatt Brewery for sponsoring the event and providing many of the
shoot prizes and giveaways.
All in all it was an awesome day, although I didn't win any
prizes I did manage to break lots of targets!
Cheers, MIKE
