Area51 Project - Aaron's Dodge Ram Cummins Rebuild:

Machine Specs:

1996 2nd Gen Dodge 2500 Pickup

12 Valve Cummins Diesel

Automatic Transmission

Submitted By: Aaron Facey

Truck is a 1996 5.9 Cummins 12 valve, automatic transmission.

At this point I am leaving the power train alone because there is so much aesthetic and fabrication work that needs to be done, I'm focusing there first. Not really a HP boosted kind of guy but I may look at some simple add on's and changes later this summer, like are filter and adjustments to the fuel pump.

I will be keeping the stock stance on the truck so no lifts, but I will be adding a new set of shoes to her ones I have her back.

Frame Repairs: The frame was in rough shape..... although my eyes did not see it when I bought it....it was rough. There was a section (about 12") of the chassis just behind the driver's door next to the fuel tank that had some damage and had a shitty repair with a price of angle iron. Tank was dropped out bad section cut out and new one wielded in.

Truck has gotten a full mechanical work up and anything and everything that needed to be replaced has been done, all new U joints (full truck), ball joints all around, rad flush, transmission flush, fresh oil and all fuel, trans and oil filters, and new brakes all around.

I tore out the old carpet and will be doing a new vinyl floor as well as I will be doing a new exhaust later this summer. Seats are in perfect condition, so they are out now getting a good cleaning. Not much happening on the interior now but in the future I'd like to upgrade the power window motors and power door locks.

I would love to paint the truck but for now I will live with it the way that it is and maybe in the coming summers that is something I get into.  Plans for the truck right now are just a casual coffee and cigar rig. I bought the truck as a beater but now it's turning in to a little bit of a legacy project so I'm just going to keep fixing and improving as I go.

It has 463000 kms and runs perfect and starts perfect first turn, at some point I would like to have the motor rebuilt but that is most likely well into the future. I will be painting the chassis and rust checking the truck as well because this Mistake has cost me way to much money now to lose to rust again.

When it's done it will be a solid reliable everyday option in the stable and I am looking forward to getting it back and enjoying it.
